The Gem ( Icy Blue Sphere ) Trap

Icy Blue Sphere Trap

General Information

These traps are related to the elements and have some sort of notable gem. Some gems are Icy Blue, some Red and some Amethyst. There might be other colors. Thanks to Taylir and Ralenor for helping out!!!

Physically Viewing This Trap

No information currently available.

Manual Disarmament

You carefully begin to examine a simple monir chest for traps...

Examining the chest, you locate a small dark red sphere held in a metal bracket towards the back of the lock mechanism. The spherical crystal gives off a strong internal heat, distorting the air around it. Faint crimson and orange waves dance languidly just beneath the sphere's surface. It appears that were the tumblers to be activated, the gem would be caught amongst them.

It looks like a difficult trap (about -160).

You still have a good enough picture of the trap in your mind, that you could try to disarm it.

Roundtime: 20 sec.

Successful Disarmament

Need to hold a lockpick or other slender item to disarm this. Apparently locksmith kits do not come with the necessary tool.

>get lockpick from my pack
You get a copper lockpick from your deep blue pack.
>disarm my chest
Having discovered a trap on the chest you begin to carefully attempt to disarm it...

You feel like you've made an excellent attempt.

With utmost care, you slip your copper lockpick into the lock and gently nudge the tiny gem until it begins to work loose and its inner glow begins to fade. Another moment of prodding, and you are able to poke the gem free of its metal housing, whereupon it falls down into the lock mechanism and out of sight.

Roundtime: 25 sec.

Setting the Trap Off

Setting the trap off mangles the box but the contents seem to be okay. Fines are running about 5000 silvers if you set this trap off in Ta'illistim, and if you are lucky enough to not kill anyone.

Having discovered a trap on the chest you begin to carefully attempt to disarm it...

You feel like you've made a pathetic attempt.

With utmost care, you slip your rolton bone lockpick into the lock and gently nudge the tiny gem until it begins to work loose and its inner glow begins to fade. Suddenly, it violently pops free of its metal housing and bounces around inside the tumblers for a moment before vanishing down into the chest!

Suddenly, you hear a sound like shattered crystal and a bright light violet light flashes from the lock mechanism!

You are engulfed by the light!
... 30 points of damage!
Horrid jolt of electricity illuminates kidneys!
You are stunned for 6 rounds!
A wave of snapping and crackling ethereal ripples moves outward from an enruned steel chest.
You are buffeted by the snapping and crackling ethereal waves, and knocked to the ground.
You are pinned in place, unable to move.
Roundtime: 7 sec.
There are angry yells as townspeople are mowed down by the waves, some thrown for loops as they frantically try to evacuate the area. You hear horrified voices shouting, "Someone get the Guard Captain!"

The steel chest is mangled by the blast!

Physical Viewing After Disarmed

Notice that the trap still appears, but it appears different.

>disarm my chest
You carefully begin to examine a simple monir chest for traps...

A thorough search of the area inside the tumblers reveals what appears to be a metal bracket of some sort, although it seems to be empty now.

Breaking A Lockpick

You settle into the difficult task of picking the lock.
You make a lame attempt (d100=29).
* SNAP * Crud! You broke your lockpick in the attempt!
Roundtime: 20 sec.

Notice that these traps after they get disarmed, break a lot of lockpicks. This indicates that the locks on these boxes prehaps exceed the abilities of most locksmiths. This perhaps one of the hardest traps to disarm and likely represents the hardest of locks to pop.

The fact that the trap sends ethereal waves out causing a stirring of the public guard indicates that more trouble arrives when a deputy shows up and that perhaps these boxes hold 10 silvers, hardly enough to pay the debts they produce.

Enjoy! The gem causing the ethereal waves disappears once the trap goes off.
